Risotto Rice - Arborio
Arborio rice is prized for its naturally high starch content and plump, round grains that release a creamy texture while remaining firm to the bite. Its unique ability to absorb flavors and create a velvety consistency makes it the ideal choice for authentic Italian risotto and other creamy rice dishes.
Basic Risotto
Ingredients (Serves 2–3):
- 1 cup Arborio rice
- 3–4 cups warm broth (vegetable or chicken)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- ½ cup dry white wine (optional)
- ¼–½ cup grated Parmesan
- Salt & pepper to taste
Step by Step Guide:

Warm the Broth Keep your broth warm in a small pot on low heat.

In a wide pan:
- Heat olive oil or butter
- Add chopped onion
- Cook gently until soft and translucent (not brown)

Toast the Rice Add the Arborio rice directly to the pan. Stir for 1–2 minutes until the edges look slightly translucent.

Add Broth Gradually Add 1 ladle of warm broth. Stir gently and continuously. Let it absorb before adding the next ladle. Repeat for about 18–20 minutes.

Final Touch Remove from heat and stir in:
- Butter (small knob)
- Parmesan cheese
- Cover and let rest 1–2 minutes.
